This Friday: Thanksgiving Potluck Lunch and Trunk-or-Trade! (your response required in the comments)

With a break upon us for this festive season of Thanksgiving, a bit of celebration is in order! (Many thanks to Mrs. Donnelly for suggesting this). Instead of packing up lunches this Friday, please instead consider bringing a dish to share with the group. We will set up a potluck in the parish hall beneath the gym and have our first indoor lunch together!

USE THE COMMENTS SECTION BELOW TO TELL US WHAT YOU WILL BRING, AND IN WHAT QUANTITY.

Our hope is that we can get:

* 3-4 families to bring sweets,

* 3 families to bring drinks.

* 1 family to bring cups for the group (we are all set on plates, napkins and flatware).

* The rest of you could bring not-too-fussy meatless savories to share.

PLEASE RESPOND IN THE COMMENTS! As the responses come in we will gauge if any particulars are needed beyond your initial offerings (probably none!).

Also, in the spirit of sharing and Thanksgiving, please join us in our first annual

TRUNK-OR-TRADE.

Please feel welcome to bring winter coats and other outerwear (boots, hats, gloves, mittens etc.) that you are ready to hand down. At some point during outside time we will open up trunks and lay out offerings to pass on to others who might need them. Please only offer what you do not want returned.

Please have items ready to lay out neatly for easy rummaging from your trunk.

When we are done, the rest can go straight into the clothing donation bin at the church! What an efficient opportunity to bless others and clean out!

And, speaking of winter clothes, please keep in mind the maxim (attributed to many, including Swedes generally, Charlotte Mason, and Alfred Wainwright the English naturalist)

"There is no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing."

That being said, as the cold approaches we all need to be ready to help our children face the elements, as they WILL get outside time every day of LCC. This will require some systems to keep things in order, so that we don't fill the Conner's van up as a permanent Lost-and-Found. (which we sort of already do, *ahem.).

Please take some time to consider your SYSTEMS.

How will you gather, use, and re-gather all hats, mittens, boots, etc. in each location through the winter? Do you have a common family bag everyone can use? Do you want to make a set of these items that lives in the car? Can you discuss habits with the children about how your family will arrive with what is needed and drive away with everything you brought? PLEASE LABEL ALL ITEMS as much as possible.

In the works is a SLIPPER POLICY that we will implement in both settings to minimize cleanup time at the end of the day through the winter. Feel free to start procuring slippers for all family members if you don't have them. Details will follow, but we wanted to mention it now in case you want to add slippers to your Trunk-or-Trade lineup!

Thanks so much! We are looking forward to a special Friday.
